History of Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway 

Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway will be the upgraded version of the Karachi Hyderabad Motorway and is under construction. The only missing piece of North to South connectivity, running from Karachi to Peshawar, is the Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway, also known as the M6 Motorway. Federal Government has now considered modernizing the 136 km long Karachi Hyderabad Motorway to manage increased traffic flow. Besides the Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway stretch, NHA has developed all other 1650 km long Peshawar-Karachi Motorway (PKM) sections. The Sindhi people have long been calling to construct the M6 Motorway. The acquisition of 63% of the land for the construction of the Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway is complete. The structure of the 306-kilometer-long M6 Motorway acquired the green light on July 16, 2020, during a meeting of the economic committee presided over by Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, PM Imran Khan’s advisor on finance and revenue. At that time, they allocated Rs. 165 billion for M6 Motorway. After an auction in May 2017, China State Construction Engineering got the contract for Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway. The authorities anticipated that the project of Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway would start in August 2017 and end in December 2019. Although the Government signed the building contract for M6 Motorway in July 2017, the engineers still needed to begin the construction because a decision from the Government and National Highway Authority was still pending. In April 2021, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) awarded the project of Rs 191.47 billion 306 km long M6 Motorway to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council. 

Estimated Cost to Complete Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway 

According to an official of the National Highway Authority, the estimated cost to complete the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project is approximately PKR 370 billion. National Highway Authority signed the task of the M6 Motorway on December 3, 2022. According to the business structure endorsed by the P3A Board, the GOP will only pay Rs 9.5 billion during the building phase. At the same time, the private sector will cover the remaining Rs297.5 billion of the project’s cost through shares and commercial loans. Additionally, the private party will contribute a minimum of Rs. 408 billion to the National Highway Authority and an estimated Rs. 908 billion in corporation taxes during the concession period. After the concession period, the National Highway Authority will get the project free of charge. The largest project ever signed in the nation’s history is the Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway, widely referred to as the M6 Motorway. The federal Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) collaborated with the NHA to structure the project using the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) approach.  

Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway Completion Date 

M6 Motorway had its groundbreaking ceremony on December 13, 2022. The National Highway Authority (NHA) is building the Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway to international construction standards, popularly known as the M6 Motorway. According to National Highway Authority and other Government officials, the Sukkur Hyderabad motorway completion date is approximately 30 months or 2.5 years. This project will reduce the Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway distance. NHA strives to have active construction projects finished on schedule. Features of the Sukkur – Hyderabad Motorway

The M6 Motorway is currently under construction. After its completion, it will provide a faster and more efficient route for both passenger and cargo traffic between the two cities. M6 Motorway will be a six-lane highway with fifteen interchanges, 82 canal bridges, a sizable Indus River bridge, six flyovers, 19 underpass bridges, and ten service areas. Length: The Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway, also known as the M6 Motorway, will be a 306-kilometer (190-mile) controlled-access Motorway in Pakistan and will reduce Sukkur to Hyderabad motorway distance.  

Lanes: After the Sukkur Hyderabad motorway completion date, it will be a six-lane, dual-carriageway, allowing for smooth and efficient traffic flow.   

Interchanges: The Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway will have approximately 15 Interchanges along its route. These interchanges allow travelers to access the Motorway from other major roads and highways in the region. M6 Motorway includes the following interchanges: Rohri Interchange, Larkana Road Interchange, Gadeji Interchange, Khairpur Interchange, Mehrabpur Interchange, Bhiria Road Interchange, Daur Interchange, Nawabshah Interchange, Shahdadpur Interchange, Tando Adam Interchange, Odero Lal Interchange, Mitiari Interchange, Hyderabad Interchange, N55 Interchange, and M9 Interchange.  

Flyovers: One of the critical features of the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway is the use of flyovers, which are elevated roadways that allow vehicles to pass over other roads, railroads, or other obstacles without having to stop or slow down. Flyovers are commonly used in areas with high traffic levels, as they help reduce congestion and improve safety. There will be a total of six flyovers included in the Hyderabad Sukkur Motorway project, which will help alleviate traffic congestion and improve the flow of vehicles along the corridor. These flyovers allow for smooth and efficient traffic movement and significantly reduce Sukkur to Hyderabad motorway distance. 

Service Areas: There will be ten service areas on the Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway to provide an essential service to drivers and passengers, and can be a convenient place to take a break, get something to eat or drink, or refuel while traveling along the Motorway. 

Motorway Route 

The Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway will join the M-9 expressway in Jamshoro at its southernmost point to provide access to Karachi. Following a turn toward the northeast, the Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway route will join the N–55 Indus Highway at an interchange. It will keep moving in the direction of the northeast till it intersects with the N-5 National Highway and connects to Hyderabad. From there, the Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway route will head north, passing through the central Sindh cities of Tando Adam, Matiari, Nawabshah, and Shahdadpur. After then, it will travel north toward Khairpur before turning northeast once more in the direction of Rohri, a city located in northern Sindh province across the Indus River from Sukkur. A controlled-access highway will extend from Rohri in the direction of Multan and Islamabad.

Speed Limit of Sukkur to Hyderabad Motorway

The speed limit on the Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway in Pakistan is 120 km/h (75 mph) for cars and light vehicles and 100 km/h (62 mph) for heavy vehicles. These speed limits are in place to ensure the safety of all drivers and passengers on the M6 Motorway.
